Ralph Lawson at the Potato Head Bar Deck on 18 August.
By bringing Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx, Danny Tenaglia and more through club night Back to Basics in the ‘90s, Ralph Lawson can easily be credited for putting Leeds on the electronic music map. But the veritable DJ’s DJ didn’t stop there: his talents quickly went international with regular stints at the best in Barcelona, Ibiza, NYC, Chicago, Australia, Argentina, Japan.
For these merits alone we’d be excited to announce Ralph Lawson will be at the Potato Head Bar Deck on 18 August, except there’s even more to him than that. This pioneer produced music for De La Guarda on Broadway, founded the highly influential 20/20 Vision Recordings label (whose roster includes dance music luminaries Crazy P, Huxley, Motor City Drum Ensemble and Audiojack, among others), created a revered catalogue of remixes, produced records alongside Chez Damier, and started the live electronic band 2020Soundsystem, which released two studio albums and toured the world to much acclaim.
Ralph never stopped DJing though, and recent years saw him take the stage at festivals like Sonar, Burning Man, Electric Elephant, Hideout, Festival No. 6, Eastern Electrics, Gottwood and Houghton, while headlining Robot Heart in NYC, playing for Circo Loco at DC10 in Ibiza and collaborating with Chez Damier, Tuccillo and Carl Finlow on a series of vinyl records called Lost in Time.
This year he continued his output by creating a compilation series that celebrates 25 years of the club that got him started in “Back to Basics Rare Classics,” which comes complete with album artwork by Jamie Reid (known for his Sex Pistols designs). He also returned to his musical direction roots by becoming the curator behind the new Inner City Electronic Festival in Leeds.
A DJ who has stood the test of time, Ralph Lawson will undoubtedly bring the party to Potato Head this month.
Tickets IDR 150,000 includes one drink at the door.
